UQ Res Halls of Residence is committed to helping students who may encounter circumstances that prevent them from living – or continuing to live – in our community.

Scholarships and bursaries are awarded to students who…

  • Are experiencing financial need
  • May gain significant benefit from remaining at Halls
  • Will make a valuable contribution to Halls community

These awards offer remission for part of the residential fees for The University of Queensland students living at UQ Res Gatton Halls of Residence.

Students who are currently receiving a University of Queensland awarded a scholarship must confirm the scholarship rules and conditions with UQ Scholarships before applying for a Halls of Residence Scholarship.

HALLS OF RESIDENCE SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES

Before applying for a Halls of Residence Scholarship or Bursary, please read and understand the Terms and Conditions (PDF, 155 KB). All Halls of Residence Scholarships and Bursaries must be submitted by 1 March 2024 to be considered eligible. Late applications will not be considered. Scholarship recipients will be announced by the end of March 2024.

WOMEN IN STEM SCHOLARSHIP

Any female second-year resident undertaking full-time study within the Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematical (STEM) disciplines at Gatton is eligible for the Women in STEM Scholarship.

The scholarship provides a $3,000 reduction in residential fees for the academic year that the scholarship is awarded, and subsequent 2 (two) academic years (3 (three) years in total). Recipients are selected on the strength of their application and demonstrated commitment to STEM, at the discretion of the General Manager, and must continue to live at the Halls of Residence for each full academic year. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic progression.

INDIGENOUS STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

The Indigenous Student Scholarship is awarded to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student undertaking full-time study in the Faculty of Science, UQ Gatton campus.

The scholarship provides a $3,000 reduction in residential fees for the academic year that the scholarship is awarded, and subsequent 2 (two) academic years (3 (three) years in total). Recipients are selected at the discretion of the General Manager and must be offered a place at Halls of Residence for the full academic year. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic progression.

Value: $3000

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarships are awarded to up to five (5) students who:

  • Display excellent educational results either in Year 12 or tertiary studies
  • Can demonstrate that the scholarship will assist in the progress of their tertiary education

The scholarship constitutes a discount on residential fees for the full academic year. Recipients are selected at the discretion of the General Manager, must be accepted to study in the Faculty of Science, UQ Gatton campus, and must be offered a place on the Halls of Residence for the full academic year.

Value: $1000

NEEDS-BASED BURSARY

Bursaries are awarded to up to five (5) students who can demonstrate financial hardship.

The bursary constitutes a discount on residential fees for the full academic year. Recipients are selected at the discretion of the General Manager, must be accepted to study in the Faculty of Science, UQ Gatton campus, and must be offered a place on the Halls of Residence for the full academic year.

Value: $1000

SCHOLARSHIP FOR OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

This scholarship is awarded to the resident/s who maintains an exceptionally high GPA for the full academic year. The award is the highest accolade and pinnacle of academic achievement within the Halls of Residence and is presented at the end-of-year Valedictory dinner.

The scholarship constitutes a reduction in residential fees, and recipients must be accepted to reside at Halls of Residence the following year to benefit from this award.

Value: $2000

This is a merit-based scholarship – there is no application process.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR OUTSTANDING SPORTING ACHIEVEMENT

One male and one female resident are selected by a panel of their peers and Administration staff for outstanding contributions to the sporting life of the Halls of Residence. The award, which is the highest sporting achievement within the Halls of Residence, is presented at the end-of-year Valedictory dinner.

The scholarship constitutes a reduction in residential fees, and recipients must be accepted to reside at Halls of Residence the following year to benefit from this award.

Value: $2000

This is a merit-based scholarship – there is no application process.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR OUTSTANDING CULTURAL ACHIEVEMENT

The resident/s who are selected by a panel of their peers and Administration staff for outstanding contributions to the cultural life of the Halls of Residence receive this highly-prized award, which is presented at the end-of-year Valedictory dinner.

The scholarship constitutes a reduction in residential fees, and recipients must be accepted to reside on the Halls of Residence the following year to benefit from this award.

This is a merit-based scholarship – there is no application process.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR OUTSTANDING OVERALL ACHIEVEMENT

The resident/s who make outstanding contributions to the overall community life of the Halls of Residence are selected by a panel of their peers and Administration staff to receive this award, which is presented at the end-of-year Valedictory dinner.

The scholarship constitutes a reduction in residential fees and recipients must be accepted to reside on the Halls of Residence the following year to benefit from this award.

UQ SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS

YOUNG ACHIEVERS PROGRAM (YAP)

The UQYAP Residential College Accommodation Grants support the tertiary study and career aspirations of senior secondary school students who might not otherwise have the option of university.

The grants help those Young Achievers who need to relocate to be able to study at The University of Queensland by offering a discount on residential college accommodation fees.

DESTINATION AUSTRALIA PROGRAM

The Destination Australia Program is designed to attract and support new international and domestic students to study in regional areas, helping to grow and develop regional Australian tertiary education providers while offering high-quality learning experiences.

Scholarships are available for new students who are living in regional Australia and undertaking full-time study in an approved program at UQ’s Gatton campus. The grants help students who need to relocate to Gatton to commence study, and constitute a discount on residential accommodation fees.

The Aspire Residential Scholarships assist students from target equity groups to undertake undergraduate studies at The University of Queensland. The scholarship constitutes a partial payment towards accommodation fees at an approved accommodation provider.
