Situated on 114 hectares of Brisbane River-bound land, UQ’s main campus is a vibrant mix of majestic sandstone buildings and contemporary architecture, landscaped gardens and lakes.
Fanning out from the heritage-listed Great Court, you’ll find modern teaching and research facilities, including laboratories, lecture theatres, and Queensland’s largest research library. The expansive grounds are also home to a variety of sporting facilities, museums, cafes, and those famous Jacaranda trees.
The St Lucia campus is only seven kilometres from Brisbane’s city centre, making it one of Queensland’s most sought-after places to live and study.

UQ St Lucia is full of cafe and food options. From great coffee and bakery food, to salad stations, pizza, vegan and vegetarian options, noodles, bubble tea and juice bars, you won’t go hungry or thirsty. Options include organic and halal food.
Retail
You don’t need to leave the campus to do your shopping. There is a bookshop, as well as a shop where you can sell your secondhand books, a hairdresser, a travel agent, a post office, a newsagency, an EzyMart convenience store and a Wednesday market offering handicrafts, gifts, flowers and fashion. Grocery stores are only a short walk away.

Healthcare
If you need to see a doctor, visit our friendly team at the UQ Health Care clinic. There is also a pharmacy and dental clinic on campus.
Library
We have six libraries on campus. They feature computers for students, group study and meeting rooms, postgraduate study areas, height-adjustable desks, 24-hour study spaces and quiet areas. Friendly staff are ready to help you with finding information, accessing resources, research support, student IT and training, and details about the latest author talk, lecture or panel discussion in the library.
Fitness And Sport
You can access UQ Sport venues year-round at discounted student prices. There’s a cardio and weights gym, 50-metre and 25-metre pools, athletics track, floodlit tennis courts, basketball, netball and beach volleyball courts, synthetic pitches, cricket nets, playing fields and much more.
Public Transport Options At Uq St Lucia
St Lucia By Car
The main road into St Lucia campus is Sir Fred Schonell Drive, a busy four-lane road parallel to the Brisbane River. From Brisbane’s CBD, the most direct route to Sir Fred Schonell Drive is by Coronation Drive. From the western suburbs, Sir Fred Schonell Drive is accessible via Moggill Road.
As there is high demand for parking on St Lucia campus, especially during the semester, we strongly encourage using public transport where possible.
St Lucia By Bus
St Lucia campus is conveniently serviced by more than 10 direct bus routes from the Brisbane CBD and outer suburbs.
Some routes travel via rapid-transit busways, which offer congestion-free services to and from campus. There are also frequent services from Indooroopilly Shopping Centre and Toowong.
St Lucia campus has two bus stations, located at Chancellor’s Place and the Lakes.
St Lucia By Ferry
CityCats are a scenic way to travel to St Lucia campus from riverside suburbs.
The campus CityCat terminal is on Sir William Macgregor Drive, near the UQ Lakes bus station and the Eleanor Schonell Bridge.
